Newfoundland - the west

Took the ferry across Cabot Strait from North Sydney, NS to  Port aux Basques, NL
A very pleasant 7 hour trip -the ferry was less than half full.

 J.T. Cheeseman Provincial Park beach

Long Range Mountains

 Corner Brook

Gros Morne National Park
Our first views of the park were under partially cloudy skies but the following day it was really socked in so we missed out on some of the vistas.

Today we will travel to the East coast of Newfoundland .

  1. Looks cool and quiet. How has the camping been in the maritimes. Easy to find available camping? Keep the pictures and descriptions coming - enjoying it all. 💕

    1. We haven't had any trouble getting camping Brenda. I think next week things will get a lot busier. Even the ferry was not very full 🙂

    2. Awesome Lou, a 7 hour trip on the way over :)... did you see any sea life like whales or ?? that is a long trip, do you know how far you went in miles or km ? nice for you to have most of the ferry to yourselves as well ... amazing in the summer time !! no reservations necessary ;))! unreal!
I love the port you went to .. looks very 'established' and being on a point would be excellent fishing I'd imagine out by that islet in the photo :) ... the grand banks off the 3 provinces are the richest fishing grounds in the world!! Do you and Paul plan on any fishing charters or rentals at at any point?
      travel safe! love you xoxo

  2. So beautiful! Everything is so green and lush looking. I think PEI and Newfoundland give BC serious competition for the title of "most scenic".

  3. You are right Eileen- the Maritimes are some stiff competition for BC!

  4. I agree with your comments... very scenic and very similar with forests and coasts... the type of forests are different i believe though? not like our rain forests in NL and PEI .. they are the acadian and deciduous forests as well as the boreal that starts in BC and is a strip right across Canada whereas here on the west coast of BC and the island especially it is all 'rain forest/coniferous' and the tallest trees as well... I love the conifers.. there are so many beauties like the birch and elm, oaks and aspens... I love them all!! All of Canada has it's own draw to me, and yet the coast on the island and the Haida Gwaii .. for their topography/geography and weather pull me the most to want to be here/there :)) .. it is all so beautiful as we can see in your pix Lou... loving this trip ;)) !!
