Edmundston to Fredericton

We entered New Brunswick on Sunday and camped at a de la Republique Provincial Park just west of Edmundston - super nice park! Monday we cycled to Edmundston along a section of the Trans Canada trail- beautiful ride ! Edmundston is a small pulp and paper town situated at the junction of the Saint John and the Madawaska rivers. The 19th century population here got caught up in a British-American border dispute so they decided to become impartial and called their area the Republic of Madawaska. Edmundston was named the capital of said Republic.
The people we met were very friendly and thankfully also bilingual. 😊

Monday afternoon we drove to Grand Falls.
The Falls and gorge were quite something !
There is a legend about a Maliseet maiden  who sacrificed her own life when she lured an Iroquois war party of 300 to their death over the waterfall.

Tuesday morning en route to Fredericton we stopped in Hartland to see the world's longest covered bridge built in 1901 -1282 feet!!
It cost approx $30,000 to build and was tolled for 5 years at 3 cents per person.
