Cape Bonavista ,Elliston and Clarenville

After Terra Nova we travelled up to Cape Bonavista to see the light house and the statue of John Cabot. (aka Giovanni Caboto)
It is generally believed that this was his landfall in May 1497 .
We also saw many icebergs!

What we saw through binoculars- image borrowed from Google 😊 - so cute but they were quite far so you need a very good camera to capture this.
Our last day in Newfoundland and time to head towards the ferry terminal in Argentia.
Stopped to hike Bare Mountain in Clarenville for some lovely views of the Northwest Arm of Trinity Bay

Time to go - good-bye Newfoundland to all your stunning views and your warm , friendly people!

Gander, Gambo and Terra Nova National Park

Stopped in Gander to visit the Museum of Aviation. Really well done exhibits explaining the history of this once very important aviation hub for transatlantic refuelling. Also played a huge role in World War II transporting fighter jets.

Drove by the airport to see its size - amazing that this tiny airport landed 38 jets on that fateful day Sept 11,2001
Driving the TCH ,as they call it here, was a little rough at times- lots of these signs 😮

Had a home cooked lunch at Gill's Grill in Gambo - no dinner required after that feed!

Joey Smallwood (1900-1991) Memorial- the father of Newfounfland's Confederation- born in Gambo

On to Terra Nova National Park where we hiked the very scenic Coastal Trail
